holy Jesus why was I not aware of this?

a week ago this report came out. about Global Warming. I'm gonna post my contemorary issues summery of it here, so that you know what a fucked up species we are. I'm not saying all of us 'Lise, I'm just saying...almost all of us. And...I don't mean to guilt trip anyone into hating themselves, but I think it's important that people are informed and take action, even if it's as small as walking into town instead of driving (me) or taking the bus or whatever. It's just gone too far and we need to act.

Science Panel Says Global Warming Is “Unequivocal” And Cites Human Role
The article that I chose to read talked about global warming. We’ve all been aware of this issue, but on the 2nd of February, 2007 a report was released that said with 90% confidence that it was of human error that this phenomenon was taking place. To quote the article “Should greenhouse gasses continue to accumulate in the atmosphere at even a moderate pace, average temperatures could match those last seen 125,000 years ago”. It also states that water levels could rise 7 to 23 inches, not including melting glaciers and ice caps. With all this new information, and all signs pointing to a human acceleration of this natural process, we are being encouraged to act now or suffer major consequences soon. Achim Stiener , the executive director of the United Nations Environment Program says “the evidence is on the table”. Richard B. Ally drives the point home by repeating “this is real, this is real, this is real.” Precautionary measures must be taken now if we plan to keep this planet.

Opinion
I’d say my opinion is the same as just about everyone else’s. We must take action now. NOW! There is no more time to hint at things still to be discovered and evidence not brought to the table yet. Scientists are saying that they are 90% sure that we are the cause, and we have the power to change our behaviors to make this right. Did you see the numbers in the summery? Those are scary projections. Bainbridge Island is going to be an…underwater jungle in 100 years. We need to get rid of our superfluous driving and greenhouse gas emissions. We are killing a planet and not even thinking about it. And that 125,000 years ago temperature projection? Those temperatures took place between ice ages. Action must be taken. No more delay.

Current Mood: scaredOh dear god what have we done?
